University of Portsmouth has not published a fixed UCAT cut-off for 2027 entry. Here's how UCAT, A-levels, SJT and the interview all fit together for dentistry.

- Portsmouth considers grades from A level resits, and where modules are retaken it takes the final grade achieved on completing the A level within a two-year period.

- Read as part of a combined assessment, but never described as scored. Portsmouth's BDS page says: 'Applications will be assessed using a combined approach that includes personal statement review, UCAT scores and academic achievement at Level 2 and 3 (GCSE and A level), therefore it is possible that higher achievement in other areas could compensate partially for a lower UCAT score.' On what it is read for, Portsmouth says: 'For health care, social care and dental care courses, we screen personal statements for particular criteria', pointing applicants at its guidance on demonstrating the NHS values; the course page adds that 'when you apply for this course, we'll expect you to demonstrate how your values align with the values of the Constitution.' All shortlisted applicants are then invited to an interview, individual online or on campus, 'which will be used alongside your application to determine your suitability for this course'.

What the UCAT had to be
University of Portsmouth does not publish one.
That is the university's own position, not a gap in our research. Any specific number quoted for University of Portsmouth elsewhere is somebody's reconstruction from reported scores, not a figure the medical school has confirmed. Treat it accordingly.

Portsmouth's dental school is new and has no completed cycle to publish. It gives 25 funded places allocated by the Department of Health and Social Care and the Office for Students, with capacity for a further 20 international students, from September 2027, and holds pre-accreditation status from the General Dental Council with full accreditation anticipated when the first cohort graduates. There is no application, interview or offer count of any kind.

The course page now lists a single September 2027 start, for which UK students apply through UCAS. The typical offer is 144 UCAS points from three A-levels, including 48 points in A-level Biology and 48 points in one other science from Chemistry, Physics, Maths or Psychology; where a science A-level has a separately assessed practical component, a pass is described as desirable and as something that may strengthen an application rather than as a requirement. The International Baccalaureate route is 30 points overall with 666 at Higher Level, including 6 at Higher Level in Biology and one other science. All applicants sit the UCAT, shortlisted applicants attend either an individual online interview or an on-campus interview, and offer holders must pass Enhanced DBS and Occupational Health checks before starting. Portsmouth's own course page does not publish a graduate-entry degree classification, a BTEC or Access to HE route, or any work experience expectation for applicants.
