UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) is the admissions test used by the consortium of UK universities that covers almost every medical and dental degree, though a small number of schools use a different test or none at all. Schools use UCAT scores alongside A-levels, GCSEs, interview performance, and contextual factors to select candidates.

How many schools should I apply to?

UCAS allows five course choices in total, and at most four in any one of medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or veterinary science. The cap is per subject rather than shared, so four medicine plus one dentistry is allowed while five medicine is not. The spare slot is often an insurance option outside both subjects. Within your four, aim for a mix: one ambitious target (highest cut-off), two realistic options (medium cut-off), and one safety school (lower cut-off). Use our school directory to build your list.
