University of Edinburgh Medicine: UCAT, A-Levels & Interview Requirements
University of Edinburgh publishes a minimum UCAT score of 1850 for 2027 entry. Here's how UCAT, A-levels, SJT and the interview all fit together for medicine.

- Not formally assessed, but not ignored: Edinburgh says the statement may provide guidance when shortlisting for its Assessment Days, and that it is essential preparation for anyone invited. So it can tip a borderline shortlisting decision without ever carrying a score.

Edinburgh publishes the whole ladder by fee status, and the fee status matters more here than almost anywhere. These are 2025 entry figures out of 3,600, a different scale from the 2027 threshold above, so they cannot be set beside a current score. Rest of UK applicants averaged 2802 when they applied, 2987 among those invited to the assessment day, 3042 among those offered and 2991 among those placed, from 545 applications for 233 interviews, 182 offers and 77 places. Scottish applicants sat materially lower at 2715, 2793, 2821 and 2778, from 678 applications for 508 interviews and 411 offers, so a Scottish applicant was invited at roughly twice the rate on lower scores. Overseas applicants averaged 2710 on application but 3048 once invited, from 686 applications for only 98 interviews, by far the steepest drop of the three. The lowest score invited was 2046 Scottish, 2134 rest of UK and 2690 overseas.
Earlier cycles are not shown because the UCAT maximum changed from 3,600 to 2,700 when Abstract Reasoning was removed. A threshold from before that is a different unit, not a higher standard. University of Edinburgh application data, checked 2026-09-01.

Edinburgh publishes three separate fee-status tables and the difference is large: 411 offers from 678 Scotland fee rate applications is 60.6%, and 182 from 545 rest-of-UK applications is 33.4%. Merging the two produces 1,223 applications and 593 offers, a 48.5% rate. EU applicants with pre-settled or settled status are inside the Scottish figures and EU/EEA applicants inside the overseas ones, as Edinburgh's own table states. Edinburgh cautions against using these as predictors, because places per fee status are set annually by the Scottish Funding Council.

Worth checking directly
Edinburgh's 2025 admissions statistics report a maximum UCAT score of 3641 for rest-of-UK applicants, in a table whose other figures are plainly on the old scale. No version of the UCAT has reached 3641: the four-subtest test maximum was 3600 and the current three-subtest test is 2700. The figure is reproduced nowhere here, and it is worth knowing that the rest of the table should be read with that in mind. The published deciles in the same document run from 3600 down, which is consistent with a 3,600 maximum and inconsistent with the 3641.

Worth knowing: One of the few schools to publish a cut-off for the cycle you are actually applying to: 1850 for 2027 entry. Widening access is handled by lifting the score rather than lowering the bar, and the three routes are not equivalent. A Plus Flag applicant is considered with any UCAT total and is also given a 10% uplift, so the cut-off does not apply to them at all. A SIMD40 Scottish applicant gets the same 10% uplift but must still meet the cut-off, and a Flag applicant gets 5% and must also meet it. A Band 4 in the SJT ends the application regardless, and Edinburgh is explicit that no widening access route overrides that. The most recent intake figures Edinburgh publishes are for 2026 entry, not the 2027 cycle the cut-off belongs to: around 2,830 applications for 266 places, split 166 Scotland, 79 rest of UK and Ireland and 21 overseas, with a further 25 places that year for Scottish applicants from the lowest SIMD20 areas. Always confirm against the official page before applying, since this is the most recent published position rather than a guarantee for the live cycle.
