University of Sheffield has not published a fixed UCAT cut-off for 2027 entry. Here's how UCAT, A-levels, SJT and the interview all fit together for dentistry.

- No numeric UCAT score is published. Sheffield requires an average or above total score in the cognitive components of the UCAT to pass Phase 1 screening; where eligible applicants exceed interview places, the UCAT cognitive component is used to prioritise invitations.

- SJT is used at Phase 1 screening. Applicants must achieve Bands 1 or 2 in the UCAT Situational Judgement Test to progress.
- A-level requirements
- AAA including Chemistry and Biology, plus a pass in the practical element of any science A-levels taken. Most interviewed applicants have a minimum of 6 GCSEs at grade 7/A including Maths, English Language and Science. An alternative offer of AAB, including AA in Chemistry and Biology plus a B in a Dentistry or health-related EPQ, is available where the EPQ and the A-levels are taken in the same sitting. The Access Sheffield contextual offer is AAB including Chemistry and Biology, plus a pass in the practical element of any science A-levels taken.

- Resits
- Open, but conditional. Applicants who have taken more than two years to complete their A-levels, and those repeating or resitting them, are eligible to apply - a markedly softer line than Sheffield Medicine takes on the same campus. The condition is that "where A Levels have previously been attempted, applicants are normally expected to have obtained a minimum of grade B in each subject at the first sitting".
- Personal statement
- Assessed, and then used again at interview, which is the opposite of the position Sheffield Medicine takes. The dental school initially assesses the academic record, evidence of career exploration, and the personal qualities and values demonstrated in the personal statement and academic reference. Assessors then interview with reference to the information given in the statement, expecting candidates to show they are well informed about choosing dentistry.

Sheffield's dental school publishes a home and overseas split for every year back to 2018, and the home and overseas rows add exactly to its own totals. The overseas route is the severe one: 61 applications, 5 interviews and 2 offers. Sheffield also publishes an acceptance row, 122 applicants accepting an offer in 2025, but its home and overseas lines under that row total 97 rather than 122, so no entrant figure is carried here. Sheffield's own selection page for 2026 entry says it receives approximately 1,250 applications each year for the 71 places available and interviews approximately 300 applicants. Sheffield publishes this for dentistry and not for medicine, where it states only an approximate application total across both medical courses.

This is a national figure, not University of Sheffield's own threshold, since University of Sheffield doesn't publish one for the current cycle.
