University of Sheffield Dentistry: UCAT, A-Levels & Interview Requirements

University of Sheffield has not published a fixed UCAT cut-off for 2027 entry. Here's how UCAT, A-levels, SJT and the interview all fit together for dentistry.

2027 UCAT cut off
Not published
How the UCAT is weighted
No numeric UCAT score is published. Sheffield requires an average or above total score in the cognitive components of the UCAT to pass Phase 1 screening; where eligible applicants exceed interview places, the UCAT cognitive component is used to prioritise invitations.
SJT policy
SJT is used at Phase 1 screening. Applicants must achieve Bands 1 or 2 in the UCAT Situational Judgement Test to progress.
A-level requirements
AAA including Chemistry and Biology, plus a pass in the practical element of any science A-levels taken. Most interviewed applicants have a minimum of 6 GCSEs at grade 7/A including Maths, English Language and Science.
Interview format
Semi-structured panel interview, not MMI, lasting up to 15 minutes, with a panel usually of two academic staff and a senior dental student. All selection days are on campus; no online selection days are offered. A separate group task assessing respect, teamwork and communication also takes place.

National benchmark, for context

For context, the UCAT Consortium's own 2025 statistics report a mean cognitive score of 1891 (out of 2,700) across 41,354 tests, with the median (5th decile) at 1880 and the top decile at 2220+. This is a national figure, not University of Sheffield's own threshold, since University of Sheffield doesn't publish one for the current cycle.

UCAT Consortium, Test Statistics 2025

Standard A-level offer: AAA including Chemistry and Biology, plus a pass in the practical element of any science A-levels taken. Most interviewed applicants have a minimum of 6 GCSEs at grade 7/A including Maths, English Language and Science. SJT policy: SJT is used at Phase 1 screening. Applicants must achieve Bands 1 or 2 in the UCAT Situational Judgement Test to progress. Worth knowing: Sheffield publishes separate pages for the closed and open cycles; the open-cycle page was used here. An alternative AAB-plus-EPQ offer is referenced by third-party sources but was not independently re-verified against the official page in this pass. Always confirm against the official page before applying, since this is the most recent published position rather than a guarantee for the live cycle.
