University of Manchester Dentistry: UCAT, A-Levels & Interview Requirements

University of Manchester has not published a fixed UCAT cut-off for 2027 entry. Here's how UCAT, A-levels, SJT and the interview all fit together for dentistry.

How the UCAT is weighted
Applicants are ranked according to their overall UCAT score, and the Academic Lead for Admissions may also weigh individual sub-test scores. Those meeting the (unpublished for the current cycle) threshold are automatically invited to interview; those below it are considered via holistic assessment rather than automatic rejection.
SJT policy
Manchester does not consider applicants who achieve Band 3 or 4 in the SJT section of the UCAT; there is no further numeric band cut-off beyond this rule.
A-level requirements
Standard offer AAA including Chemistry and Biology/Human Biology (contextual offer AAB, care-experienced/refugee offer ABB, same subject requirement). GCSEs: at least seven at grade 7/A or above, including English Language, Mathematics and at least two science subjects at grade 6/B minimum.
Interview format
Five-station Multiple Mini Interview, each interviewer marking one station, 7 minutes per station with a 2-minute or longer gap between stations. Held in person in Manchester between January and March; only overseas-fee-status applicants may interview remotely via Zoom.

National benchmark, for context

For context, the UCAT Consortium's own 2025 statistics report a mean cognitive score of 1891 (out of 2,700) across 41,354 tests, with the median (5th decile) at 1880 and the top decile at 2220+. This is a national figure, not University of Manchester's own threshold, since University of Manchester doesn't publish one for the current cycle.

UCAT Consortium, Test Statistics 2025

Standard A-level offer: Standard offer AAA including Chemistry and Biology/Human Biology (contextual offer AAB, care-experienced/refugee offer ABB, same subject requirement). GCSEs: at least seven at grade 7/A or above, including English Language, Mathematics and at least two science subjects at grade 6/B minimum. SJT policy: Manchester does not consider applicants who achieve Band 3 or 4 in the SJT section of the UCAT; there is no further numeric band cut-off beyond this rule. Worth knowing: The most recently published UCAT threshold (2026 entry: 2,200 standard, 2,100 widening-participation) is historical context only, not the current figure; the current cycle's threshold is set retrospectively after shortlisting. Always confirm against the official page before applying, since this is the most recent published position rather than a guarantee for the live cycle.
