How the UCAT is weighted

Applicants who meet grade requirements are ranked by UCAT score and the top-ranked are invited to a Selection Day; no fixed score is published because the threshold varies year to year. UCAT is also used as a tiebreaker if Selection Day scores are tied between candidates.

A-level requirements

Standard offer AAA to include A-level Biology and one additional science, with a pass in the practical element where it is separately endorsed. The additional science may be Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, Environmental Studies or Geography. Contextual offer AAB with the same subject requirement, open only to UK school leavers who meet two of the university's contextual admissions criteria. GCSE: seven at grade B/6 or above, including English Language, Maths, and either Biology and Chemistry, Combined Science, or Science and Additional Science.

Interview

Resits

University of Southampton publishes no resit policy. That is not the same as resits being accepted, and it is worth asking admissions directly before relying on either reading.

Personal statement

Not scored for the five-year course, with one route in. Southampton screens BM4 and BM5 applicants on academic requirements and then ranks them on UCAT alone to decide Selection Day invitations; the separate widening participation BM6 route scores answers to its own application questions instead. The statement becomes decisive only in two places: applicants who are exempt from the UCAT "will have their personal statement reviewed against the non-academic criteria to determine if they should be invited for a Selection Day", and a statement that is not the applicant's own work counts as a fraudulent application, which can end a place already taken up.

The Selection Day is an interview plus a group task rather than an MMI circuit.
