University of East Anglia Medicine: UCAT, A-Levels & Interview Requirements

University of East Anglia has not published a fixed UCAT cut-off for 2027 entry. Here's how UCAT, A-levels, SJT and the interview all fit together for medicine.

2027 UCAT cut off
Not published
How the UCAT is weighted
UCAT results used in selection process; no published minimum cut-off for the current cycle.
SJT policy
The SJT component score is included within the interview score rather than treated as a separate gate. UEA publishes no SJT band threshold and names no band as an automatic rejection; after interview, applicants are ranked on interview score, which carries the SJT, alongside overall UCAT score, and the two are weighted equally.
A-level requirements
AAA including Biology or Chemistry. GCSEs: a minimum of six subjects at grade 7/A including Mathematics and either two science subjects or Double Science, with grade 5/B required in English Language. Triple Science, Science, Additional Science and Further Science are accepted. Graduate applicants need six at grade 5/B including English Language, Mathematics and two sciences. Applicants are considered for two consecutive years only.
Interview

Multiple Mini Interview, six stations, 5 minutes a station, in person, November to March.

Resits
GCSE resits are accommodated rather than penalised: applicants who do not meet the GCSE requirement must be resitting and predicted to achieve the required grade. UEA publishes no A-level resit rule.
Personal statement
Screened as pass or fail rather than scored. UEA's FOI disclosures state the statement is read but not assessed or scored in any way, while its course page confirms primary screening checks that an applicant has a satisfactory personal statement and reference. So it cannot earn marks and can still end an application. Applicants with gaps in education must use it to explain what they have been doing or plan to do.

What the UCAT had to be, 2025 entry

Out of 3,600. University of East Anglia's own published figures.

Every figure below is 2025 entry.
Lowest score actually interviewed
2,080/ 3,600
what the floor turned out to be
Average of those interviewed
2,743/ 3,600
where you actually need to be

Out of 3,600, from UEA's own freedom of information disclosures rather than a statistics page. The trend is the interesting part: the lowest score invited fell every year, 2340 then 2190 then 2080, while the average of those invited also fell, 2849 then 2795 then 2743. UEA got easier on the UCAT three years running even as it interviewed more people from fewer applications, 699 interviews from 1,012 applications for 2025 entry against 622 from 1,688 two years earlier. It made 599 offers for 192 places. UEA also states that personal statements are read but not assessed or scored in any way, that GCSEs and A-levels carry no weighting in shortlisting, and that the EPQ is not considered.

Earlier cycles are not shown because the UCAT maximum changed from 3,600 to 2,700 when Abstract Reasoning was removed. A threshold from before that is a different unit, not a higher standard. University of East Anglia application data, checked 2026-09-01.

National benchmark, for context

For context, the UCAT Consortium's own 2026 statistics report a mean cognitive score of 1918 (out of 2,700) across 42,359 tests, with the median (5th decile) at 1920 and the top decile at 2250+. This is a national figure, not University of East Anglia's own threshold, since University of East Anglia doesn't publish one for the current cycle.

UCAT Consortium, Test Statistics 2026

Standard A-level offer: AAA including Biology or Chemistry. SJT policy: The SJT component score is included within the interview score rather than treated as a separate gate. UEA publishes no SJT band threshold and names no band as an automatic rejection; after interview, applicants are ranked on interview score, which carries the SJT, alongside overall UCAT score, and the two are weighted equally. Worth knowing: UEA states it has no cut-off score: a high UCAT helps, a low one does not disqualify. Its Freedom of Information disclosures go further than most prospectuses by separating those interviewed from those offered. For 2023/24 the average UCAT among interviewees was 2,790, ranging from 2,190 to 3,410, while among those who received offers it was 2,809 - near-identical averages, so at UEA the UCAT barely separates the interviewed from the offered. A newer disclosure carries this forward: the lowest UCAT securing an interview fell from 2,340 (2023 entry) to 2,190 (2024 entry) to 2,080 (2025 entry), with interviewee averages of 2,849, 2,795 and 2,743. All of these are on the old 3,600 scale. UEA declines to publish how it weights UCAT against interview, answering "No" when asked whether it operates a weighting system across UCAT, GCSEs and predicted A-levels, and pointing enquirers to its course page for everything else - so treat any claimed weighting as inference. Around 195 UK and 13 international places for 2026 entry. Always confirm against the official page before applying, since this is the most recent published position rather than a guarantee for the live cycle.
