How the UCAT is weighted

Applicants are ranked on their overall UCAT score; Liverpool states it uses the overall score and not individual subtest scores in that ranking, and the top-scoring applicants then progress to the second stage, academic assessment. The cut-offs published for 2026 entry were 1960 for home applicants and 2080 for international and EU applicants. Liverpool says cut-off scores vary from year to year, and that it removed historic UCAT scores from its website because the UCAT itself changed for 2026 entry. Graduate applicants to A100 are ranked on the GAMSAT instead, on overall score, with a minimum of 50 in each sub-component.

SJT policy

SJT is checked alongside UCAT at the ranking stage. Home applicants must score band 1 to 3 in the situational judgement test for their application to be processed; international and EU applicants may offer any of the four SJT bands.

A-level requirements

AAA, pending or achieved, including Chemistry plus either Biology, Physics or Mathematics, plus a third academic subject, taken in one sitting after a two-year period of study. Alternatively A*AB is accepted, where the A*A must include Chemistry plus Biology, Physics or Maths and the third academic subject is a B. General Studies, Critical Thinking and Level 3 BTECs are not considered as a third academic subject. GCSE: for most applicants nine GCSEs in separate subject areas are required, with English Language, Mathematics and Science at a minimum of grade 6/B, and non-graduate applicants are usually expected to have a minimum of 15 points at GCSE level. Liverpool makes no reduced grade offer for Medicine. The university-wide contextual reduction of up to two grades applies 'except Medicine and Foundation programmes', so a contextual applicant to A100 is held to the same AAA or A*AB. What contextual status changes is the rest of the bar: at least 12 points at GCSE rather than 15, with English Language and Maths still at grade 6, plus flexibility on UCAT and MMI performance that Liverpool sets annually.

Resits

University of Liverpool publishes no resit policy. That is not the same as resits being accepted, and it is worth asking admissions directly before relying on either reading.

Personal statement

Liverpool does publish a policy, in its A100 Departmental Supplement: 'All candidates should ensure that the submitted UCAS form includes a fully completed personal statement and academic reference. Personal statements and academic references will not routinely be considered as part of the decision to invite individuals to interview. However, the type of experiences that individuals record through their personal statement are likely to be considered as part of the interview.' So the statement is not a shortlisting instrument but is live at interview, where non-academic attributes are assessed against Liverpool's published list: health care career awareness and insight, caring for the community, a critical, coherent and informative approach to verbal and written communication, and the values that underpin good healthcare practice.

Worth knowing: Places on A100 are currently capped at 292 home and 23 international or EU per annual intake, around 315 in total. Liverpool publishes no standing UCAT threshold and says the threshold for progressing through each stage varies annually with the quality and quantity of applications. A home applicant in SJT band 4 does not have their application processed at all, regardless of everything else. Liverpool's own admissions FAQ for 2026 entry states that approximately 730 offers were made for 2025 entry to home applicants on A100, against 291 places available that year.
