How the UCAT is weighted

UCAT results are used alongside A-levels and GCSEs to select candidates for interview. Plymouth applies a UCAT threshold score each year but does not confirm it until all applications for that cycle have been assessed, so no cut-off has been published for the current cycle; the most recently published figure is 2,690 (home) / 2,640 (international) for a prior cycle.

SJT policy

SJT is part of the UCAT taken alongside the three cognitive subtests, used within the overall UCAT threshold for interview shortlisting; no separate SJT band cut-off is published.

A-level requirements

Standard offer A*AA to AAB (Widening Access offer AAB), including grade A in Biology and grade A in a second science from Chemistry, Physics, Maths or Psychology, third subject from any area. GCSEs: 7 passes at grade C/4 or higher including English Language, Mathematics and two Science subjects. General Studies is not accepted.

Interview

Resits

Re-sit applicants are considered, but with a first-sitting floor that our previous entry omitted: 'If you are applying with predicted grades, a minimum of ABB must be achieved on first sitting of A Level. Where ABB is not achieved on first sitting, applicants must re-sit the required qualifications and apply once suitable grades have been achieved.' A Levels or accepted equivalents must be completed in no more than three years of study unless otherwise advised, and a suitable qualification profile must be achieved on the first re-sit attempt. Plymouth has no AS Level resit policy, though full A Levels must still fit the timeframe. The IB resit floor is 34 points overall with Higher Level 5 in Biology and Higher Level 5 in another science at first sitting. The resit policy for Widening Participation students is ABC.

Personal statement

Not used at all, and Plymouth says so plainly: it does not currently consider personal statements or work experience when selecting for interview. One of the very few schools to rule out work experience as well.

Worth knowing: Plymouth publishes its recent thresholds for both fee statuses. Home: 2650 for 2023 entry, 2610 for 2024 and 2690 for 2025. International: 2570, 2630 and 2640 across the same three years, so the international bar sat below the home one in 2023 and above it in the two years since, which is the reverse of the usual pattern. Every one of those figures is on the old 3,600 maximum and cannot be compared with a score sat from 2025 onwards, so they show the shape of the bar rather than its height today. The threshold moves each year with the strength of the field. Always confirm against the official page before applying, since this is the most recent published position rather than a guarantee for the live cycle.
