University of Leeds Medicine: UCAT, A-Levels & Interview Requirements
University of Leeds has not published a fixed UCAT cut-off for 2027 entry. Here's how UCAT, A-levels, SJT and the interview all fit together for medicine.

- UCAT score is combined with academic criteria into a total rank score. There is no fixed pass or fail threshold; a high academic score can compensate for a lower UCAT score and vice versa. Leeds only began using the UCAT in 2024, so historical threshold data is limited.
- SJT policy
- The SJT is one of the four UCAT subtests taken, but Leeds does not publish a separate SJT band cut-off or distinct use of the SJT score in selection.
- A-level requirements
- Standard offer AAA including Chemistry and Biology. Taking a fourth A2 subject gives no advantage, and an A* cannot compensate for a B in another subject, so Leeds will not accept A*A*B instead of AAA. Certain combinations are not acceptable: Chemistry with Biology and Human Biology, Chemistry with Biology and Sports Science, and Chemistry with Biology and Critical Thinking. EPQs and Level 3 Core Maths are not considered within Leeds's scoring. GCSE minimum: six GCSEs at grade 6 or above including Maths, English Language, and Biology and Chemistry or Dual Science, though Leeds notes that applicants applying with these minimums are unlikely to be shortlisted for interview and that its scoring is based on eight GCSEs. The Access to Leeds offer is ABB with a minimum of six GCSEs at grade 4 or above in the same subjects.

- Resits
- From 2026 entry Leeds accepts one resit attempt per A-level and one per GCSE without needing mitigating circumstances. A third attempt at any entry qualification is considered only where the applicant can evidence mitigating circumstances that prevented them reaching the grades on the second attempt. Clearer than most, and more generous than it first sounds.
- Personal statement
- Not formally part of shortlisting, but load-bearing in one specific way: Leeds requires any mitigating circumstances to be set out in the personal statement and academic reference at the point of application, so a resitting applicant who leaves them out has weakened their case. Leeds also states that the decision to make an offer after interview depends entirely on interview performance, not on grades or the UCAT.

This is a national figure, not University of Leeds's own threshold, since University of Leeds doesn't publish one for the current cycle.
